Ohio: Marblehead's 1822 Lighthouse

I borrowed my dads car (slightly better on gas) and headed to Marblehead Lighthouse, hoping to catch a glimpse and maybe some photos of the Neowise Comet.

Unfortunately when I was planning, I miscalculated the path based on an app I was using to determine the best location along Lake Erie to see the comet. There are quite a few trees in Ohio and I wanted a clear spot. Needless to say, as a ex-photojournalist, I've learned that the story is not just in the photos you don't get but the one you are able to capture.

I needed some outdoor time and a windy and beautiful sunset sitting on the rocks along Lake Erie made it a perfect night!

The Marblehead Lighthouse, Marblehead, Ohio

The 50 foot Marblehead Lighthouse has been in continuous operation since 1822. The lighthouse is now part of the 9 acre State Park has been automated but continues to guide boaters safely through the bay.

Lake Erie is the 12th largest fresh water lake in the world, It is also the shallowest of the Great Lakes with ta depth at 210 feet. Created by glaciers, it is 210 miles long, 57 miles with a shoreline of around 879 miles. The water is choppy because of the shallowness and my personal experience while covering the Tall Ships event in Cleveland in the 2000s involved sitting on a small boat to photograph the ships. Needless to say I discovered I can’t handle choppy water in a small boat.
