How Will I Earn Money on the Road?

As I work on getting my life ready for this next step, there are a lot of checklists I have to complete. (this is the teaching from my mom) I am spending the month of January, redesigning my business website, and getting it ready for on-the-road life.

BIG concerns (I only have 2)..the other concerns are not quite as big.

  1. How to make money

  2. Insurance (much more research needed)

Finding Remote Work

There are so many jobs online that you can do “at home”... Since I am a photographer and have 24 years of shooting under my belt. My plan is to attend and sell my artwork and prints at Art Walks and fairs. Over the next year, I will be building up my inventory from photos I have already captured.

I will be attending a few here in LA just to talk and see what others are selling. Watching people and determining what items they tend to flock to. This will help me determine what type of photographic products I want to sell.

  • Prints?

  • Canvas Wall Art?

  • Knick Knacks?

What I do know; is that my home, my office, and my store will all be in an RV, so it has to fit. I believe that the upper bunk area will be my storage for shows. (Unless I can make it fit under)

What do people buy when they attend these events? What can the average photographer make while working a show?

Ways to earn.

  • ArtWalks / Art Fairs = $1000+ a month

  • Blogging? I know people do it, but I have no clue (more research needed)

  • Workamping

  • Paid to Photograph areas

    • Side note: a while ago, my mom shared a link that the national parks services were looking to hire a photographer to travel and shoot the national parks. THIS…This is what I want!!

    • Craigslist – odd photography jobs

    • Phone Sales – not sure what it will bring monthly… hopefully, another $1000 a month.

    • Scheduling portraits as I travel, posting on Craigslist in each of the locations I will be traveling to. This will require a massive scheduling calendar

I know this will not be easy, but…BUT… I will be able to control what I’m doing, shooting, attending, my life while somewhat scheduled is open for spontaneity. That is the reason I am doing this. Not only to see the world around me and find the life that I dreamt of, but to be able to live and not just work.
