Ohio's 32,000 Acre Outdoor Playground

Cuyahoga Valley National Park

When I was in college, I would drive around the area looking for photographs. I would often find myself in Cuyahoga County. It was a large nature preserve and had a fantastic road the weaved through trees.

This area would later become the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Yep - Ohio has a national park. It’s an area that is speckled with homes, farms and ski resorts, marshes, historic landmarks, the towpath, and the Cuyahoga River. There is so much to see that it in fact took me two trips. I went in the Spring when we had a fantastic sunny day and decided to head back to chase fall colors.

I highly recommend adding this park as a must-see.

The 32,572-acre park is a refuge for native plants and wildlife and provides routes of discovery for visitors. It was originally designated as a National Recreation Area in 1974, then redesignated as a national park 26 years later in 2000. The winding Cuyahoga River gives way to deep forests, rolling hills, and open farmlands. Walk or ride the Towpath Trail to follow the historic route of the Ohio & Erie Canal.
