How do I Monitor my Pets when I’m away from my RV?

Warmer weather is closer than you think.

If you’re like me, worrying about my pets when I step away from my RV is a major concern. Spending two weeks in the RV during California temps, I learned quickly how hot the RV can become. Their safety became a top priority.

I invested in reflectors, and window coverings to reduce the heat inside. If it’s warm, I run the fans and open the windows to allow air flow. I also make sure that my errand is not going to take all day. If that’s the case I will leave the RV plugged in and Uber to my appt. This allows me to run the AC and keep the RV cooler. I will also try and make sure errands are in the morning or evenings when it’s typically cooler.

Many RVers travel with their furry family. Making sure they are safe when you adventure or take a day trip into a town can sometimes be a challenge. If I do have to run errands, it’s usually in the morning when temps are cooler, I do try to find shade but since my RV is just over 12ft tall, it can be a challenge.

For the first year, I didn’t have a monitoring system. There were many to choose from but nothing I could find that was reasonably priced, worked on Wifi, without having to have it connected to actual a wifi system I had in the RV or limited to range.

Finding the right Pet Monitor

I needed something that could send me alerts, texts to warn me of any potential issues. Power outage, temperature alerts etc. Most of the time, my RV goes with me. I don’t have a tow car, just an ebike. So if I’m running to the store, or taking a short hike or bike ride, I want to make sure the pups will be ok.

I am lucky enough to have two fans and I typically have one running in and one out to help circulate the air. Having rain guards on them allows me to keep them open regardless of weather. I also monitor the weather and if there are no signs of rain, I leave two other windows open.

  • Buddy Quarterly = $20 ($60)

Thoughts after 6 months of using the Waggle Pet Monitor.

It’s worked very well and I have been happy with the performance. I do recommend getting one and installing it before a trip so you can understand the ins and outs of how the system works.

I chose the Waggle 4G Lite since I didn’t need the GPS or the Digital Display. While I didn’t have this during the summer, it worked well this winter and kept me aware of the temps in my RV. My travel intention is to follow the weather, staying in 72-degree weather and I prefer cooler temps, but there will be occasions that I will end up further south and in warmer climates. Now that I have the Waggle device, I have peace of mind when traveling.
